I am a very nostalgic and sentimental person. Although I am terrible at remembering things that I am supposed to do in the present, I am extremely good at remembering the past. From the age of 13-14, I got my first Sony Ericsson phone with a 2 megapixel camera. Yes, I know that this is pretty pathetic but for those who have only known smart phones and tablets, a phone with a 2 megapixel camera was like top of the range!
I was never into taking photos until this point and it kind of became an obsession in a way. Even to the point that I would get very frustrated if I didn’t capture every moment. I remember one time when a gardening accident involving me, my friend and a pick axe went horribly wrong and I ended up with a small hole in my head. The following 2 days I was not allowed to leave the house, obviously for my own good, but I was throwing a tantrum because I was more worried about missing out on capturing memories. I should probably get my priorities sorted out, right?
Anyway, back to my favourite childhood photo.
This is it. It’s just a simple selfie of me with my best mates from school. From left to right it goes Me, James, Dan then Liam. This was a school day which made it even better! I sat by the radio and waiting for them to call out my schools name in the long list of school closures that day.
It’s not the day that makes it my favourite childhood photo though. Its because it reminds me of a time when I didn’t have to pay bills, no job, no responsibilities, no car problems, no budgeting. A time when £5 pocket money a week was more than enough.
Reflecting on the past, its crazy how times have changed. I treasure this memory because its something that I will never get back. It’s now very hard for all of us to get together as we all have our own lives going on and we only see each other several times a year. Its been YEARS, and I mean years, since we all got together because of the difference in working hours etc. A get together soon is much needed!
Until next time – folks.
